All I hoped for!

gps review Garmin Forerunner Receiver Heart Monitor

Garmin Forerunner Receiver Heart Monitor

I've had my Garmin 305 for more than 6 months now and I absolutely love it! It's helped me train and finish a marathon. It was a wonderful help with my 20 weeks of training. I programmed it with my interval training sessions sessions -- it was very, very easy to program my different training sessions (for example, run 4 minutes/wal 1 minute). It also helped me when I got lost on my long runs -- I went from running 3 to 4 miles at a time to running 20 miles (that was my long run) so I got lost. With my Garmin 305, I marked various locations and it directed me back to them so I could find my way home.

I would not have been been able to train for my marathon without it! OK, maybe I could have, but it would have been a lot less fun, a lot harder, and I would have gotten lost.

One more thing -- I'm a pretty small woman, and even though the wrist unit is pretty big, I found it pretty comfortable to wear.

  1. I enjoy running outside a lot- MUCH more than running on a treadmill or indoor track. However, on the treadmill you can monitor your pace, time, distance quite easily, because the treadmill does it for you. So, i was wondering what people do in order to measure their times on runs. I'm considering purchasing a timex device, or the nike ipod device to better track my runs. But I wanted to know what other people had been doing before i made this investment. Tracking distance & time during outdoor runs.

  2. I know the wrist monitor is rechargeable, but was wondering about the heart rate chest strap. Is the battery in it replaceable or do you have to send it off for replacement as the many chest straps I have owned in the past only last between 1 1/2 to 2 years. Also, when you download your info on the site does your running course with street names automatically load?

  3. Ive just started jogging every morning around my neighborhood. Im only up to a mile a day (i measured distance using mapquest lol), But im getting to the point where im willing to invest in one of those walking meters (not sure what their called though) as using mapquest and such may not be that accurate. Are these walking/running gadgets fairly accurate and reliable?

  4. I'm a newbie at running, but it would be nice to find a watch that keeps track of everything during my run (instead of having to use mapmyrun.com or relying on a treadmill for info).

  5. I've heard that there's something for runners/cyclists that measures heartrate but incorporates some sort of sat nav that charts your run (I think you can down load the info onto your computer to show your route, miles run etc). Does this exist and if so, what's it called. Was thinking of buying it for my hubby for his birthday if not too pricey. If anyone out there's got one, would be grateful for their opinion on it. ta

  6. I'm looking for a wrist watch/bracelet that comes with (no additional purchases required) a GPS that monitors your speed and distance/steps, heart monitor that is constantly measuring, calorie counter, and time/stop watch. Hopefully looking for something under $150. Thanks for the help!
